On March 10, 2026, first year international students visited Saratov Exhibition Center “The Rainbow”. They learned about the Center and its expositions and saw an exhibition of reproductions of frescoes on the Bible themes by the Italian artist Giotto di Bondone from “Capella del Arena” in Padua (Italy).
Art of Giotto was extremely innovative. His works were transition from the Late Middle Ages to humanistic arts of Renaissance. The flat, symbolic figures of Byzantine art gave a way to volume.
Giotto was born in a village not far from Florence in 1266-67. At the age of 35, he painted 36 fragments in the “Capella del Arena” in Padua and was recognized as the best artist in Italy. The saints on the frescoes and paintings look like living people with their emotions and feelings. Modern European painting begins with Giotto. Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci found their inspiration in his arts.
